It’s National Cheeseburger Day! Greg Browning’s Top 3 Favorite Indiana Burger Joints!

Today is Monday September 18th, also known as National Cheeseburger Day! One of America’s favorite sandwiches was recognized on this date back in the early 1920s, and we celebrate it today. Here are my Top 3 favorite cheeseburgers in Central Indiana…

FIVE GUYS

Easily one of thee best cheeseburgers in Central Indiana, which first opened in 1986 in Virginia. Jerry and Janie Murrell told their four sons to either choose college or a career, so they chose the lateral and went into the burger business. What I like most about Five Guys is their cheeseburgers are thick…not some wimpy, thin patty. And if you stop by today to celebrate National Cheeseburger Day, definitely get an order of their fries. One order is big enough to share with half your neighborhood!

BRU BURGER

My first experience with Bru Burger was at their downtown location on Mass Avenue. As I approached the restaurant there were several people standing outside the entrance. They were waiting to get in just to put their name on a wait list! I’m not exactly patient and was ready to turn around, but I’m glad I didn’t. Bru Burgers have a fantastic flavor, using top notch beef and they make their own ketchup…what?! Yep, and maybe I was just really hungry that afternoon, but the ketchup had a good kick to it. You can also try Bru Burger in Carmel.

MAX & ERM’S

My brother lives out west but when he comes home for Christmas, he always wants to go to Max & Erma’s, specifically for their cheeseburger and fries. Again, they made my list because it is a THICK, delicious burger! I usually opt for their Santa Fe Chicken salad, but if I’m gonna order something else, I really like their cheeseburger. And even though they offer different toppings, I’m a traditionalist and go for ketchup, mustard and extra pickle. Can’t miss with that cheeseburger!
