The defense is wrong — but the timing could be right.
Ralph Macchio has starred in a number of enduringly beloved films, but he knows exactly what fans want a reboot of most: yes, YUTES! It’s “My Cousin Vinny”.
Macchio says that a follow-up to the beloved 1992 comedy movie has been in discussion. Macchio played Bill Gambini, a college student wrongly accused of murder and defended by Pesci’s Vinny Gambini in the 1992 comedy.
One hiccup for making a next chapter is original star Pesci, 83, who retired from acting in 1999. His acting gigs are rare.
“He could FaceTime it in here,” Macchio said of the “Goodfellas” Oscar winner.
“Yeah, I’ve had conversations with other writers about the project, but we would have to find the right angle.” Maybe my character is practicing law now with Vinnie’s son or daughter.
Macchio meanwhile has been in the business of reboots. “Cobra Kai,” a Netflix “Karate Kid” spinoff that he starred on for six years, was a surprise hit for the streamer. Its final season ended in February.
I for one would love to see a sequel to “My Cousin Vinny” because my biological clock for an update on this rom com is ticking!
