In 2022, it seems like everyone has a payment app on their phone—Venmo, Apple Pay, Google Pay, Cash App…
If you are a user of the last one mentioned, Cash App, there’s a chance you were impacted by a data breach that occurred recently. According to Mashable, the company is reaching out to 8.2 million users to inform them of the breach.
A former employee downloaded investing reports which had customer information, including full names, account numbers and portfolio holdings. The good news is, no passwords, usernames or social security numbers were part of the reports.
The Mashable article doesn’t mention how Cash App will contact users who were potentially affected. I use the app regularly, and I haven’t seen anything yet.
